Canning Vale College (CVC) is seeking to appoint a highly effective and empowered individual to join our team in the role of Associate Principal.
We are looking for an applicant who ideally has outstanding communication and interpersonal skills and should be committed to achieving optimal outcomes for all students. These skills will see you negotiate effectively and build and maintain strong relationships with all stakeholders, as we restructure our College to suit our current demographic. We are looking for someone who is ideally highly motivated, energetic, and who possesses the qualities needed to bring people together, inspire confidence, identify opportunities, and establish and progress new initiatives, specifically in relation to achieving successful outcomes for all students through the embedding of high impact teaching and learning practices.
The current role is that of Senior School Associate Principal. The successful applicant will ideally need to display extensive experience in dealing senior school students and parents to develop successful pathways for all students including Education Support students. They will also ideally need to display a high level of curriculum knowledge as well as that of SCSA, WACE and Reporting to Parents requirements. The role is also responsible for the management of the Wellbeing and Behavioural Support of the upper school cohort. A knowledge of timetable construction and manipulation would be considered advantageous. Associate Principal roles may be rotated or adjusted in the future at depending on College need.
The Associate Principal will be an integral part of the College Executive team. They will work closely with the Principal, Executive and Leadership teams to develop and promote the College vision, motto, and values in the school community as we continue the next iteration of our Business Plan.
CVC is an Independent Public School with approx. 1,350 from Years 7 to 12 students and approx. 180 staff. This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements;
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
