An opportunity like no other, we invite applications from recent high school leavers who have completed the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) to take part in our innovative and inaugural Gap Year Program commencing February 2024. The Program will offer positions that are regionally based so we want to hear from high-school leavers living in remote and regional areas of WA. Leavers living in the metropolitan area are also encouraged to apply.
About the Program
The Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage (the Department) is committed to investing in young people’s development and supporting their entry into the workforce. We are proud to launch our brand-new Gap Year Program in 2024.
The Gap Year Program is a new innovative career pathway for WACE achieving high school leavers. Through this 12-month program, successful applicants will receive professional development opportunities, work experience and coaching. Successful applicants will also be fully supported to complete a recognised Certificate through a Registered Training Organisation while undertaking paid work in the public sector.
We have four positions on offer, as Administration Support Officers. Level 2 (Public Sector CSA Agreement 2022) commencement salary $70,432 + 11% superannuation
In support of the Department’s commitment to building an inclusive workforce, one position is dedicated to an applicant who identifies as an Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander people (50D), and another for a person with a disability (66R).
About Us
Formed in 2017, the Department brings all land use and heritage responsibilities under one umbrella to shape the future of our cities, regions, and towns.
The vast scope of our work ranges from managing much-loved State assets such as Whiteman Park and Fremantle Prison, to overseeing the Aboriginal Lands Trust and Crown land estates, to working closely with other State Government departments on strategic government priorities.

Working for the Department
The Department’s head office is in the Perth CBD at 140 William Street; however, the Department has a strong regional presence with offices throughout regional WA for you to work from. During the application process, you will be given the option to select your preferred working location.
