Within the Department, the Office of Digital Government works under the direction of the Minister for Innovation and the Digital Economy to lead, support and coordinate the digital transformation of the WA public sector. Ensuring that personal information and data collected, stored and shared by the WA Government is protected, is a crucial element of what we do.
About the Role
The Chief Data Officer will promote a culture of transparency, accountability and safe use for government held information. As Chief Data Officer, you will play a pivotal role ensuring the protection of personal information and data managed by the WA government.
As a member of the executive team within the Office of Digital Government, you will support WA’s digital transformation working in partnership with senior leaders across government, industry, and jurisdictions.
The role champions and advocates a whole of government culture of best practice in the linkage, use and management of data and responsible information sharing, including the anticipated introduction of Privacy and Responsible Information Sharing (PRIS) legislation, which aims to deliver better outcomes for Western Australians.
In addition, the role:
- Builds the capability of the public sector to responsibly link, use, manage and share data and information to drive benefits for the WA public and improvements within the public sector.
- Develops strategies, roadmaps and business cases to drive and build whole of government responsible information sharing, and data linkage and analytics by the public sector.
- Exercises stewardship of the whole of government data hub, facilitating the sharing and use of data in government to inform evidence-based decisions that enable the state to respond appropriately to key issues and risks.
- Leads reform and delivery of whole of government data linkage, to ensure that sensitive data is shared safely and securely to inform policy and service design.
- Drives innovation, initiatives and partnerships aligned with the Digital Strategy for the Western Australian Government 2021-2025 and other government priorities.
To be successful in this role, you will need to have a deep understanding of data and privacy principles and best practices, as well as experience working with information systems and technologies. You will also need to be an excellent communicator and a skilled problem solver, with the ability to think strategically and provide clear, actionable guidance to others. You will embody the Department of the Premier and Cabinet’s corporate values of leadership, connection and impact to deliver outcomes for the Western Australian community.
In return, we offer a competitive salary package, flexible working arrangements, and the opportunity to work on some of the most innovative and exciting digital projects in the country.
