Byford Primary School (PS) is seeking an exemplary Deputy Principal to join our school leadership team.
We are seeking an enthusiastic, innovative, and team-oriented Deputy Principal with practical understanding of teacher development and curriculum expertise across a Kindergarten to Year 6 teaching and learning environment to join our team. In collaboration with the Principal, the Deputy Principal will provide educational leadership in the school and the community by developing and promoting the school values, ethos and priorities, and encouraging students, staff, parent’s community members and others to share ownership of the school’s vision and goals.
We are looking for an experienced individual committed to achieving the best educational outcomes for our students. You should have experience leading teacher quality, using evidence-based planning to improve learning outcomes and be able to work through complex situations in both a team environment and individually. Previous experience with managing timetabling, rostering, teacher relief, casual payments, and an understanding of SIS Integris and the HRMIS systems is highly desirable.
The successful applicant will ideally be highly motivated, reflective, and enthusiastic and should have successful well-developed leadership experience within their current role. We are looking for applicants who possess excellent organisation skills, as well as highly developed interpersonal skills, with the ability to pay attention to detail and work cooperatively and efficiently in a team environment. Other desirable qualities would include a positive attitude and the ability to anticipate and adapt to change and exhibit initiative, as well as actively supporting a strong culture of collegiality, integrity and high expectations.
Byford (PS) is an independent public school with a long, proud history. Built in 1921, it has grown to accommodate approximately 380 students and incorporate the Byford Community Kindergarten at Park Road. Byford PS has embarked on a clear school improvement journey, having recently made significant changes to our instructional models across both the English and Mathematics learning areas. The successful applicant will ideally be able to support the Administration team to continue to lead our school focus on practical strategies for engaging students and improving their learning through evidence-based strategies with the goals of increasing student engagement, improving student achievement, and building teacher capacity in our school.
At Byford PS our moral purpose is to ensure all students achieve academic excellence, and for this reason we are in the process of reviewing our approaches to Student At Educational Risk (SAER) and Learning Support across the school. The successful applicant will be responsible for leading the school’s SAER approach and practices. An ideal applicant will therefore have an excellent understanding of, and bring an innovative approach to child development, evidence based intervention approaches and programs, have highly developed interpersonal skills to be able to liaise with, and initiate important partnerships with key stakeholders and agencies to improve services in this key priority area for our school.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
