The National Trust of Western Australia is deeply committed to the journey of Reconciliation. The National Trust has a long and proud tradition of working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples which underpins its Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). As the Aboriginal Engagement Officer, this role will assist embed a whole organisation and community approach to Reconciliation, supporting a shared vision, understanding and ownership of actions. Reporting to the Senior Manager Marketing and Community Engagement, the Aboriginal Engagement Officer will develop relationships that strengthen the National Trust's partnerships with Aboriginal People and which enables their Culture to be expressed, particularly through education, interpretation and cultural tourism programs. In partnership with our staff, the role will identify and drive opportunities for the National Trust to realise its strategic aims with focus on the achievement of tangible Reconciliation outcomes. Key Duties: 1. Oversight of the implementation of the RAP including implementation, ongoing tracking, and monitoring of RAP deliverables; 2. Liaise with the National Trust Aboriginal Advisory Committee; 3. Develop and oversee innovative culturally appropriate initiatives across National Trust sites, including education and interpretation programs, staff and volunteer inductions, and in association with other parties development of culturally appropriate tours as part of the overall visitor experience; 4. Create a network of community members and stakeholders relevant to key properties to build authentic storytelling and community engagement; 5. Working with the Senior Manager Marketing and Community Engagement and community members, develop an authentic cultural learning/cultural education program; 6. Champion employment, procurement and volunteering opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples across the National Trust portfolio; 7. Identify, develop and deliver partnership opportunities with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples to achieve outcomes for culture and Country; 8. Establish and coordinate collaborations to build capacity, scale and impact for National Trust campaigns that pursue cultural outcomes; 9. Commitment to National Trust strategic goals; 10. Partner and communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and Traditional Custodians; and 11. Other duties as directed by the CEO.
Essential: 1. Minimum 3-5 years previous community engagement and or education experience or similar; 2. Demonstrated experience working, communicating sensitively and effectively, and building meaningful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, including Traditional Custodians; 3. Demonstrated understanding of the landscape of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples organisations; 4. Experience in participating in implementing a Reconciliation agenda across an organisation, including RAPs; 5. Well-developed interpersonal, communication and consultation skills including the ability to communicate effectively; 6. Understands and responds to stakeholder needs and builds trust to achieve mutually beneficial partnerships; finds innovative solutions to address stakeholder needs and resolve stakeholder issues; 7. Accuracy and attention to detail is essential; 8. Ability to demonstrate a professional approach to managing time and costs and able to meet deadlines; 9. Strong administration skills, including ability with Microsoft Word and Excel; 10. Ability to travel to places located in the Midwest and/or south of the State; 11. "C" Class Driver's Licence; 12. National Police Clearance and a Working with Children Card.
This is a twelve month, fixed-term appointment with a six-month probationary period.
