About the Role

The Safety Health and Wellbeing (SHW) Manager leads a team of safety professionals in the delivery of safety advice and direction across the business, and is critical in the delivery of a positive culture of safety behaviour that drives operational safety performance.

Main Roads is a diverse business, including construction projects, road and bridge maintenance, property and land function, materials laboratories and heavy vehicle services.

Your leadership of the safety function will be relied upon across the entire State.

You will manage a business partnering model that delivers a specialist SHW service in line with the corporate SHW strategy and associated acts and legislation including:

  • Develop, implement and evaluate corporate SHW business strategy that facilitates effective management of risks relevant to Main Roads.
  • Lead and manage a diverse team of safety professionals to deliver a consistent corporate approach to Safety, Health and Wellbeing practices
  • Provision of specialist advice and support on all SHW matters and issues affecting Main Roads directorates and contractor operations.
  • Provision of strategic level advice to achieve the required business results that also meet relevant regulatory, legislative and compliance requirements.
  • Build and enhance professional working relationships with staff and contractors at all levels to ensure a healthy safety culture across the business, providing guidance to achieve excellence in safety performance.

The role is a Monday to Friday, based in East Perth with short regional trips to our offices or project sites locations across Western Austrlia.

About You

To be successful in this role you will have comprehensive skill, knowledge and experience in providing effective leadership and management of a team of Safety, Health and Wellbeing program that meets regulatory, legislative and compliance requirements in a large and complex organisation.

Strong engagement, effective leadership skills and the ability to establish and engage a regional network to influence change across a large and complex organisation is critical to your success in this role.

Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to interact effectively and build and maintain relationships with senior management and other key stakeholders is essential.
