About the role
Hakea Prison, situated in the south-east metropolitan area of Perth, is the primary remand, receival and assessment prison for male metropolitan prisoners. As such, it is the first point of contact for the majority of prisoners entering the prison system. It is unique as a facility having the dominant proportion of its population as unsentenced prisoners.
Hakea Prison has three guiding functions:
- To receive and house all male remand prisoners in the metropolitan area, including long term remand prisoners from regional areas;
- To provide a receival facility for newly sentenced male prisoners in the metropolitan area requiring assessment prior to alternative placement; and
- To act as a transit and dispersal prison as required.
To provide and maintain a library collection at Hakea Prison. Performs a wide range of specialised clerical, technical and para-professional duties in support of library service delivery and collection management. The position will also assist in the provision of productive work, training and recreation for prisoners, undertaking appropriate training and forming part of the recreation delivery team for the prison.
Eligibility
- Possession of a Certificate III in Library and Information Services.
- To be eligible for a permanent appointment to the Western Australian public sector it is essential that you are an Australian citizen or have permanent residency status in Australia.
- All employees are required to undergo employment screening, which includes a National Criminal History Check and other checks that may be relevant to the position requirements.
