Canning College is looking for its next Principal to continue its legacy of delivering high quality, international education within the Department of Education and the wider Western Australian international education community.
As Principal of Canning College, you will lead a highly reputable institution that has a forty-year history of excellence and achievement in the delivery of education to overseas students. You will have the opportunity to build on its unique curriculum and student services structures which are designed to meet the educational and personal needs of students from various countries who have chosen Canning College to pursue their education journey.
What makes Canning College unique?
Canning College pioneered international education within the Department of Education, commencing its service to overseas students in 1982. Our teachers at Canning College have helped thousands of students progress to universities in Perth, across Australia and to many parts of the globe.
Canning College provides a unique suite of curriculum for its international students, much of which is developed in conjunction with Western Australian universities. The College offers Year 10, Year 11, Year 12, Certificate IV UAP, Diploma of Commerce, and Bridging preparation courses leading to Year 11 and 12 programs. It is essential for the Principal to maintain and further develop this curriculum for the College to provide curriculum pathways.
Canning College operates 52 weeks a year to support international marketing, teaching and business requirements. We take particular care to ensure our students under the age of 18 years have appropriate arrangements made for their welfare and accommodation, and the Principal assumes the role of guardian for these students who do not live with a relative.
The Ideal Applicant
The Principal of Canning College is responsible for establishing and maintaining a school culture that promotes positive relationships between students and staff and engages parents and the wider community in the educational work of the school. The College needs a Principal who is innovative and creative in the establishment of systems and structures to foster academic development and improvements in social and emotional development for the students.
We are looking for an experienced school leader who can build on the College’s reputation and has the capacity to foster international partnerships and work across different cultures to promote the school and encourage new students, with the support of the College International Office.
As a CRICOS holder (Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students), you will have in depth knowledge of the applicable state and federal legislative and policy frameworks that govern much of the operations of the College.

Subsequent Appointments
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
