Merredin College is seeking a Health and Physical Education Teacher to join their high quality regional school.

Teachers and school administrators employed at Merredin College in 2023 are eligible to receive an Attraction and Retention Incentive of $7,000 (pa, gross – to be adjusted pro rata for FTE and tenure). Eligible staff will receive a percentage of this payment on commencement at the school, with the remainder paid at the end of the school year. Staff must remain employed in the location until the end of the school year to be eligible to receive the second payment.
The ARI payment is in addition to other incentives that may apply in this school.
About the role
Teachers at all stages of their career including new graduates and soon to be graduates are encouraged to apply for this exciting opportunity to deliver Health and Physical Education (HPE) across our school curriculum. The successful applicant will work as part of a collaborative and experienced HPE team that is friendly and supportive in the delivery of our whole school approach to ensuring the very best outcomes for our students.
The successful applicant should ideally be an expert, passionate teacher of HPE, with a possessed commitment to excellence in teaching and learning. You should be able to display an excellent knowledge of the Western Australian Curriculum, and experience in developing and delivering a broad spectrum of secondary Health and Physical Education curriculum, and a wide range of teaching models and the ability to teach Outdoor Education is desirable. You should also be able to display the ability to differentiate the curriculum in an engaging and relevant manner. Applicants should ideally be innovative and inclusive and able to cultivate a safe and accountable learning environment for students of varying ability levels across Year 7 – 12.

HPE at Merredin College is dedicated to the delivery of a program which provides students with opportunities to participate and excel in physical activities in an enjoyable, caring environment. Our program is designed to provide students with a holistic approach to developing their mind and body. The learning area develops physical skills to an appropriate level for each student and offers opportunities to compete in house and inter school sporting competitions.
Our aim is to educate students to develop positive attitudes towards physical activity and to equip them to make healthy lifestyle choices. The HPE program also focuses on giving students the knowledge and skills to make informed decisions about their health and well-being.
The College also provides extra opportunities for high achieving and enthusiastic athletes. Students have the opportunity to represent the College and the local community in sports such as basketball, netball, hockey, volleyball, Australian Rules football and tennis. Interschool competitions in swimming, athletics and cross country are well attended by Merredin College students with a great degree of success. The ultimate success indicator is when students continue to participate in sporting and recreational activities with responsible lifestyle choices in their post school years.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
- meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
