The Role

We are seeking a qualified individual, with rail passenger transport knowledge, to fill the role of Rail Operations Planner within our Infrastructure Planning & Land Services division (IP&LS).  In this role you will be required to assist in the development of the PTA operations vision and strategy for passenger rail network, ensuring that sound operational requirements are at the forefront of decision making.  The incumbent will provide technical support and advice on strategic rail operations planning to the IP&LS division and to the PTA, and will also maintain the rail operations model, schematics and  plans in accordance with the PTA’s Standards.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • An appropriate Planning or Transport Degree or Diploma, or near completion of, an approved equivalent.
  • Demonstrated understanding of planning and design in relation to long term planning in public transport or a similar industry.
  • Demonstrated understanding of rail network operations and the interdependencies between key railway infrastructure and systems as applicable to operations planning, eg track, signalling and overhead power.
  • Experience in computer modelling and quantitative analysis using contemporary computer software relevant to transport operations planning, preferably rail network simulation modelling using appropriate specialist software.

This is a fixed term opportunity to the 29 August 2025 with the possibility of extension and/or permanency.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur for up to 12 months.
