About the roles
The Strategic Reform division advises the State Government on law and justice issues, sets the strategic direction for reforms to the criminal and civil justice systems, and leads the development of strategies to address Aboriginal over-representation in the justice system. Our work includes:
- Facilitating the amendment of legislation to reform criminal and civil law and procedure.
- Developing policy initiatives to improve justice-related outcomes for the community, with a particular emphasis on improved outcomes for Aboriginal people.
- Carrying out reviews, evaluation, and research to recommend improvements to, and future directions for, policy, legislation, and services.
- Providing data and analysis to support making the justice system more efficient, equitable and effective.
- Implementing complex justice reform projects to reduce reoffending and enhance community and victim safety.

Legislative Services
The Legislative Services Directorate coordinates and develops legal policy and legislative projects, in support of the Attorney General and Minister for Corrective Services policy and legislative agendas. If you are interested in taking new laws through Parliament this one is for you!
Strategic Policy and Projects
The Strategic Policy and Projects Directorate oversees the development and delivery of strategic policy, projects, and other key reforms. Strategic Policy works collaboratively across the Department and with other Government agencies to provide policy advice and support on whole-of-Government responses to issues including family and domestic violence, elder abuse, mental health, youth offending, housing and homelessness, and disability. If you are keen to find solutions to complex social policy problems this is the right role!
Aboriginal Justice Transformation
The Aboriginal Justice Transformation Directorate provides specialist cultural advice and delivers dedicated programs, services, and initiatives for Aboriginal people, aligned with the Department’s objective of providing high quality and accessible justice services in a manner that is equitable, responsive, and relevant to Aboriginal people. The Directorate also provides strategic advice to contribute to the achievement of improved justice outcomes for Aboriginal people, working with other agencies and at the national level to deliver on Closing the Gap targets. About you
We are looking for dynamic and passionate policy practitioners who have the knowledge and experience to contribute to the development and implementation of legislative and policy reform, and who:
- Have proven experience in social and/or legal policy analysis, implementation and review, with research, analytical and engagement skills.
- Can demonstrate their ability to influence diverse and multiple stakeholders to achieve results.
- Can establish and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues and external stakeholders.
- Have demonstrated communication skills, structuring messages clearly and succinctly, both orally and in writing.
- Have demonstrated ability in supporting strategic projects and initiatives to deliver outcomes within agreed timeframes.

Pool Recruitment
This pool will be open for a period of 18 months from the day after the breach of standard claim period closes. Permanent, fixed term, full time and part time appointments may be offered.
The Department of Justice uses recruitment pools to build a bank of talent for future opportunities however, an appointment is not guaranteed. Applicants found suitable in this pool, may be considered for subsequent, similar vacancies at similar locations, with the Department of Justice for the duration of the pool.
