We are expanding - Three Senior Legal Officer permanent appointments are available in our Legal Services branch based in our East Perth office.

This pool process will be used to fill the above positions and may be used to fill other similar vacancies across the department as they arise over the next 12 months.

Assistant General Counsel Specified Calling Level 5 vacancies are also being advertised at this time.

About these roles

Take the next step in your career, Senior Legal Officers provide legal opinions and advice to the Department on legal issues, predominantly concerning criminal law and evidence related to safety investigations and appear as counsel for the Department, including as lead counsel in significant hearings and trials before courts and tribunals.

This position is located in East Perth, accessible by public transport and near to reasonably priced City of Perth parking. You will also enjoy onsite lifestyle facilities, including bike lockers, fully equipped change rooms and personal lockers.  The DMIRS gym is located across the road at 1 Adelaide Terrace and membership is very affordable.

What are we looking for?

You must have a Degree in Law and be admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of Western Australia or be a Legal Practitioner from outside the State whose qualifications for admission in Western Australia have been approved by the Legal Practice Board.

To be competitive for this roles, please submit a detailed resume and covering letter (of no more than 2 pages) providing practical examples of your:

  • Demonstrated experience in court appearances, processes and procedures.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing high level legal advice on a broad range of complex legal matters.

All requirements, capabilities and pre-employment checks listed on the attached JDF will be assessed as part of the selection process. Pre-employment checks will include; National Police check and a Conflict of Interest declaration. An executive search may be used to fill these vacancies.
