We are expanding - Four Assistant General Counsel permanent appointments are available in our Legal Services branch based in our East Perth office.
This pool process will be used to fill the above positions and may be used to fill other similar vacancies across the department as they arise over the next 12 months.
Senior Legal Officer Specified Calling Level 4 vacancies are also being advertised at this time.
About this role
Drawing on your legal experience you will hold both a leadership and a legal advice role. The Assistant General Counsel conducts the most complex and high profile matters with a focus upon workplace safety matters and general corporate legal issues that arise for the Safety Division of the Department. This includes prosecutions and administrative law proceedings on behalf of the WorkSafe Commissioner under the Work Health and Safety Act 2020.

Where will you work?
This position is located in East Perth, accessible by public transport and near to reasonably priced City of Perth parking. Whether it’s enjoying the tranquil Queens Gardens or the riverside foreshore, you’ll be spoilt for choice. You will also enjoy onsite lifestyle facilities, including bike lockers, fully equipped change rooms and personal lockers. The DMIRS gym is located across the road at 1 Adelaide Terrace and membership is very affordable.
What are we looking for?
You must have a Bachelor of Laws Degree or equivalent and admitted or eligible to be admitted to practise in Western Australia with substantial relevant post admission experience practising in the areas of litigation, criminal law, regulatory enforcement or another area of law relevant to the role.
To be competitive for this roles, please submit a detailed resume and covering letter (of no more than 2 pages) providing practical examples of your;
- Significant experience analysing complex legal problems and providing legal advice that is well written, accurate and solution focused.
- Strong leadership skills including the ability to analyse and creatively solve complex leadership problems.
All requirements, capabilities and pre-employment checks listed on the attached JDF will be assessed as part of the selection process. Pre-employment checks will include a National Police check. An executive search may be used to fill these vacancies.
