Why we need you
The key role of the Network Operations Directorate is to optimise the performance of the existing road network to facilitate the movement of people and freight safely, reliably, and efficiently throughout Western Australia.
We are looking for up to four (4) individuals who will utilise their substantial traffic engineering experience and knowledge to protect and improve the integrity, efficiency, and safety of the road network.
Your strong traffic investigation, analysis and problem-solving skills, as well as your proven ability to build and enhance relationships with internal and external stakeholders, are essential for success in this role.
The Traffic Management Services branch is growing and this presents exciting opportunities for new members to join the team.
About the Role
One of the key goals of this role is to improve safety and efficiency outcomes on the Perth Metropolitan Road network. Some of the tasks and deliverables include but are not limited to:
- Coordinate investigations, recommend, review and implement relevant policies, guidelines and practices that facilitate the safe and efficient use of the road and shared path network throughout Western Australia.
- Investigate road safety and efficiency issues, formulating solutions where required and providing appropriate advice to customers.
- Provide specialist advice on traffic engineering and road safety practices.
- Review signs, pavement markings and traffic signal design drawings.
- Prepare memos recommending the approval of signs and pavement markings and traffic signal design drawings.
- Instigate the installation of approved signs and pavement markings.
- Manage the team’s performance to deliver outcomes.
- Build and maintain relationships with local governments and other stakeholders.
- Provide input to guide the development of Main Roads policies and guidelines.

- A statement outlining your substantial skill, knowledge and experience in the following three (3) criteria in no more than three (3) pages:
- traffic engineering principles and practices including traffic design, planning, safety and modelling in a diverse range of road environments
- traffic investigations, analysis, and problem-solving in a diverse range of road environments.
- managing financial, technological, physical and other resources within agreed allocations to meet agreed outcomes.
- A copy of your WA Driver’s Licence
- If applicable, please attach a copy of your Degree in Engineering or other relevant disciplines.
