DMIRS is seeking to increase the diversity of our workforce to better meet the differing needs of our customers and to improve equal opportunity outcomes for our employees. What is the Aboriginal Employment Program (AEP)?  

The AEP is a diversity and inclusion initiative that sits within the department’s Aboriginal Employment Strategy and the Diversity and Inclusion Plan.  It is a 12-month program which provides Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people employment and career development opportunities.  The program commences in February 2023.

What you will be doing?

In this role, you will be working within the Dangerous Goods and Critical Risks Directorate who administers legislation covering dangerous goods, explosives, major hazard facilities, petroleum operations (both onshore and offshore) and geothermal operations.

As a Dangerous Goods Officer, you will work under general supervision and be responsible for assessment and issue of licenses, permits and approvals under delegation from the Chief Dangerous Goods Officer. You will also conduct compliance inspections, liaise with relevant stakeholders, and provide dangerous goods safety advice and support to remote Aboriginal communities to achieve a high level of public and worker safety, as well as a high level of community confidence in the regulatory controls imposed on the dangerous goods industries.

Where will you work?

This position is located in 1 Adelaide Terrace, which is a landmark building at the eastern gateway to the Peth CBD, it is a light airy building with a central atrium, open floor plan and views of parkland and the Swan River. Easily accessible by public transport.

  1. A maximum two (2) page covering letter using examples to address the requirements outlined below,
    • Successful completion of Year 12 course, or equivalent, in science (preferably chemistry or physics).
    • Demonstrated ability to prepare and write concise, clear and logical reports.
    • Ability to liaise and negotiate outcomes with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  1. A current resume including the names of two (2) referees, with a current line manager preferred.
