The Paediatric Critical Care (PCC) unit is looking for motivated and passionate Registered Nurses to join our team. PCC offers a variety of supportive programs to assist nurses in their transition to Critical Care Nursing. Whether you have recently finished a graduate program, have experience in a complimentary specialty or are already an experienced Critical Care nurse, there is a supported education program suited to you!

Paediatric Critical Care comprises the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and the High Dependency Unit (HDU) and one of the specialised services at Western Australia’s only tertiary children’s hospital.

What PCC offers - The Paediatric Critical Care (PCC) unit at PCH offers a state-wide intensive care service for critically ill infants, children and young people. Nurses in PCC are responsible for the care of sick and injured children as well as their post-surgical care. This includes complex Cardiothoracic, Ear Nose and Throat and Neurosurgery. PCC has access to the latest technology and innovation and is a Centre for Intensive Care research. PCC also forms part of the hospital’s emergency response and medical emergency team. The PCC unit is a Level 3 Intensive Care Unit and offers a range of complex services including an ECMO service. 

Training and upskilling - PCC offers a range of supported programs designed to complement your existing skills and transition you into the care of infants, children and young people in PCC.

  • The PCC Introductory Program is designed for Registered Nurses with 1 - 3 years post graduate experience in an acute care setting – (next intakes March and September 2024).
  • The PCC Transition program is designed for Registered Nurses with a minimum of 3 years post registration experience in a complimentary specialty, including nurses with adult acute care and critical care experience– (next intake January 2024).
  • For experienced PICU and Paediatric High Dependency nurses, the PCC facilitates a Post Graduate program in conjunction with Curtin University as well as an accredited ECMO course and other specialty training.

Transferable skills in Intensive Care and/or High Dependency care from a paediatric or adult environment or experience in paediatrics will be highly regarded but not essential. Comprehensive training and support to transition will be provided to all levels of experience.

International applicants with a minimum  of 3 years experience and currently working in PICU or Paediatric HDU are encouraged to apply for sponsored visa opportunities. Relocation assistance is available. The roles are equivalent to Registered Nurse (UK Equivalent Band 5) and or Clinical Nurse (UK Equivalent Band 6) positions.
