We are seeking a thought leader to fill the position of Manager Aboriginal Engagement. This is a new position for the State Library and will play a pivotal role in ensuring library services, spaces, collections and programs are community-informed, culturally safe, well-utilised and highly valued by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

We have a permanent, full-time (75hrs per fortnight) position available.

The Role
The Manager Aboriginal Engagement provides high-level advice, guidance and thought leadership to the Chief Executive Officer and the Executive team on current matters and trends in relation to reconciliation initiatives and relationships with Aboriginal communities, cultural protocols, and strategic priorities.
This role will influence and suggest improvements across all business areas of the Library:
- Collections
- Interpretation and engagement initiatives and public programs
- Communications
- Information and reference services and safe and welcoming library spaces
- Stakeholders and partnerships across the WA community
- Staff development, cultural capability, training and mentoring
About You
Our ideal applicant will have sound knowledge of Aboriginal history and culture and an understanding of the issues and barriers to access for Aboriginal people in relation to the State Library.
An ability to work and partner effectively with Aboriginal people and communities, and to lead and motivate library staff will be highly regarded.

Pre-Employment Integrity Checks
So the community can be confident in our staff and the services we provide to the community we carry out pre-employment integrity checks. As part of this process suitable candidates will be asked to provide:
- ID documents that prove their identity and any name changes.
- A National Police Clearance Certificate (no older than 6 months).
- Two referees (a line manager is preferred) that can verify their employment history, including their role and responsibilities, conduct, performance and reasons for leaving.
