Shenton College is seeking to appoint a dedicated Design and Technology Assistant to join our friendly and supportive team.
As a successful applicant, you will be required to prepare the classroom and workshop to enable the classroom teacher to instruct students effectively. You will prepare specialised equipment and materials and provide operational advice for Design and Technology workshops, classes, and demonstrations.
This role will require you to maintain, evaluate and assess technical equipment and carry out basic maintenance, manage off-site repairs and complete stocktakes on the College’s design and technology equipment. The successful applicant will assist with ordering supplies and equipment, liaising with suppliers, negotiating prices, obtaining quotes, and maintaining adequate supplies.
The successful applicant will ideally have a sound knowledge of the Work, Health and Safety (WHS) requirements regarding the storage and recording of chemicals, tool and maintenance schedules and of stock-taking procedures. You should have interpersonal skills to enable positive relationships with staff and students.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- Knowledge, skills, and experience in operating technical/industrial equipment within a design and technology workshop/class or similar environment.
- Knowledge and understanding of the Western Australian Occupational Safety and Health Act 1984 and its coverage in industrial environments.
- Knowledge of Design and Technology subjects relevant to secondary schools.
- Good written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to deal effectively with individuals at all levels.
- Organisational and time management skills and ability to work independently.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course; and
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
- Hold a Certificate III in Work Health and Safety or equivalent qualification or experience
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
