Independent Public School - North Metropolitan Education Region
Shenton College
Deputy Principal
00034895
Level 4, $137,518 - $146,256 per annum (SEA GA 2021)

Advertised Vacancy Number: IPS/DP756570

This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 1, 2023.

Shenton College is a boldly ambitious school at the forefront of education in Australia, delivering the highest quality education to our community.  We seek to nurture curiosity, collaboration, and a sense of responsibility towards others, enabling our staff and students to lead lives of agency, contribution, and fulfilment. The College is seeking an innovative and strategic Deputy Principal - Head of Lower Senior School (Years 9 and 10) to work closely alongside the Principal and the executive team to deliver on our ambition and to ensure our programs are challenging and innovative and deliver educational excellence for all our students.

The Deputy Principal, Head of Lower Senior School, will be expected to lead an educational community with established programs that consistently deliver outstanding outcomes. The Lower Senior School (Years 9 and 10) currently has nearly 1000 students and is home to dedicated specialist programs such as our highly regarded and nationally awarded selective academic GATE program and the locally selected High Performance Learning Program. These programs have broad community recognition and consistently attract the highest performing students from across the state. Alongside these academic programs the Lower Senior School has evolved in recent years to nurture diverse opportunities for students to connect to community.

The culture of the Lower Senior School supports our motto: Much More than Marks – Learning for Life, with the establishment of student action groups and many successful co-curricular programs supporting active citizenship and participation.  As the Head of Lower Senior School, you will have responsibility for maintaining these existing programs and actively lead in their development and improvement. The Lower Senior School provides a rich curriculum to set the foundation for a successful pathway into the Upper Senior School. Ideally, you will be able to demonstrate outstanding curriculum leadership, and also the requisite high level of understanding of school operations and system processes to support successful academic and wellbeing outcomes.

Located in Perth's western suburbs, the College has a well-earned reputation for excellence, whether it is the entrenched professional culture that embraces innovation and growth or the consistent success of our students at local, national, and international levels. The College has a dedicated Middle School (Years 7 and 8), Lower Senior School (Years 9 and 10) and Upper Senior School (Years 11 and 12).  We strive for excellence in everything we do, and as a large and vibrant educational community, we enthusiastically support our highly regarded Lower Senior School in developing an educational program that recognises the evolving social, emotional, physical, and intellectual characteristics and needs of students in this age group.

We have a firm belief that building a school around a child provides greater capacity to cater for students with unique learning and social needs. We focus on the whole child not just the academic child – we seek to empower them to be independent and confident learners so that they can be purposeful contributors to an increasingly interdependent world. Our success is built on solid foundations and on the skills of an outstanding team.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:

  • Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
  • High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
  • Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
  • Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

Applications will be assessed against the work related requirements of the position. The business needs of the school may also be considered. It is therefore recommended that you consider all information contained in the advertisement and any other related information before applying for the vacancy.

The Department is an equal opportunity employer and encourages people with disability, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and persons from culturally diverse backgrounds to apply.
