The Department of Health, led by the Director General, has been established as the System Manager responsible for the overall strategic direction, management and performance of the Western Australian (WA) public health system to ensure the delivery of high-quality, sustainable, safe and timely health services.
The WA public health system employs approximately 44,000 dedicated staff who ensure the health and wellbeing of the State’s population throughout the metropolitan, regional and remote areas of WA. The WA health system as a single health entity covers an area covering approximately 2.5 million square kilometres.
The foundations that underpin essential services to the community include: supporting our workforce; robust standards for the delivery of high-quality and safe care, and optimal patient and community experience; sound financial management and clinical performance; infrastructure; and information and communications technology (ICT) delivery; and supporting and enhancing research and innovation.

Position Profile: The Executive Director Digital Health will provide strategic oversight and leadership in the implementation of the WA Health Digital Strategy 2020 – 2030. A transformational strategy that places people, clinicians and consumers at the heart of digital design to improve the delivery of health care. The greatest challenge is making health services more sustainable, accessible and personalised, while retaining focus on safety and quality obligations.
As part of implementing the strategy, you will:
- develop and implement the health system’s Digital Strategy Roadmaps, system-wide digital and ICT standards and polices while ensuring compliance;
- deliver the state-wide transformational Electronic Medical Record functionality change program;
- direct the interface with other work programs, both across the whole health system and broader government sector to share synergies and ensure strategic alignment to deliver health system and government priorities;
- lead the establishment of a reporting dashboard that incorporates key system measures and existing performance and quality measures to drive, monitor and report progress; and
- provide advice on government policy agenda and strategies related to ICT initiatives at whole-of-government level.
In delivering the strategy, you will drive robust and innovative approaches to change by leading work in the areas of portfolio assurance, maturity and capacity building, governance, strategic planning, support, problem solving, communication and stakeholder engagement to deliver oversight and program management support.
Your leadership will drive the large-scale and sustained improvements to the operation of the WA health system’s ICT environment (people, process and technology) to achieve better health outcomes for all Western Australians.
The ability to engage with and influence key senior stakeholders and develop strategic partnerships across a wide range of organisations to implement the WA Health Digital Strategy 2020 - 2030 is critical.
