About the Role
Main Roads Western Australia is growing rapidly due to technological advancements and their impact on the transport landscape. This growth is creating new challenges and opportunities within the organisation.
An exciting position has become available within our Property Management Branch of our Finance and Commercial Services Directorate. As a Land Acquisition Officer you will manage the compulsory and voluntary acquisition of land, including instructing specialist consultants, negotiating with landowners for low to medium risk and low to medium valued road projects in a timely fashion and in accordance with relevant legislation.
Some of your key deliverables will include, but are not limited to:
- Undertake compulsory and voluntary acquisition of land within project timeframes and budgets and, in accordance with the relevant State legislation.
- Manage the formal process relating to the registration of “Notices of Intention” to Take land and “Taking Orders” to ensure land is available in accordance with project timeframes.
- Issue settlement instructions to the Sate Solicitor’s acting as conveyancing officer.
- Provide specialist advice to customers and stakeholders on operational and statutory land acquisition matters including compulsory and voluntary acquisitions and land exchanges.
- Provide regular land acquisition financial and programme reports to Project Directors and the Principal Land Acquisition Manager.
- Consult with State Government agencies, local government and the public on issues impacting land acquisition matters.
- Build and maintain professional working relationships with land owners and occupants.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have demonstrated considerable experience in processes involved in land acquisition in accordance with the relevant legislation, have the required skills, knowledge and experince to undertake research, analysis and problem solve, have excellent negotiation and facilitation skills, be empathetic and be able to prioritise and deal with competing requirements.
You will also have good stakeholder engagement skills to build and enhance working relationships within the team and across Main Roads.

All selection criteria listed in the Job Role Statement will be tested throughout the selection process.
Applicants will be required to complete a pre-employment medical questionnaire and obtain a National Police Clearance prior to appointment as part of this recruitment process.
You will also need to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 pursuant to the Building and Construction Industry Worker (Restrictions on Access) Directions (No.3) (www.wa.gov.au), unless you are exempt in accordance with the directions.
