Key Duties: 1. Responsible for the provision of advice in regard to Commonwealth, State and Local Government legislation, policies, strategies and proposals which impact on heritage places or issues; 2. As directed, researches and prepares background material on advocacy issues including briefing papers, memos, articles and reports for the National Trust; 3. Responsible for the delivery of a diverse range of heritage and special projects as directed, and in coordination with relevant National Trust staff and technical committees, assists with the provision of historical research, physical analysis, assessment of significance, planning and policy development; 4. Coordinates heritage information management and internal department policies and procedures related to the records of heritage places and National Trust classified places; 5. Provides advice and assistance to owners of National Trust classified places and other heritage places as part of the advocacy programmes such as basic heritage conservation advice, grants and funding information, explanations of heritage listings and interpretation; 6. Where required and as directed, responds on behalf of the National Trust on proposals, plans and other actions which impact on cultural heritage places or issues; 7. Seeks opportunities for fee-for-service projects such as heritage strategies, heritage assessments, heritage impact statements and conservation management plans including development of quotes, work programming, project management and monitoring and coordination of work teams; 8. As directed, assists with the preparation of submissions on behalf of the National Trust regarding relevant new legislation or changes to legislation, policies, strategies and proposals which impact cultural heritage places or issues; 9. Supports the implementation of advocacy strategies and activities including engagement with Local Government, key stakeholders and community organisations; 10. Supports senior management with the conservation and compliance requirements of the National Trust Heritage Appeals programme to ensure adherence to conservation and interpretation requirements in line with the Burra Charter and liaises with the Chief Financial Officer in relation to the financial requirements of the programme; 11. Effectively and efficiently manages the development and maintenance of services and resources, included the delegated responsibilities for the heritage services budget; 12. Responsible for the budgetary and financial requirements and reporting processes in all areas of responsibility; 13. As directed, assists with Aboriginal heritage and the National Trust Reconciliation Action Plan; 14. Responsible for the management of the National Trust technical committees; 15. Responsible for the recordkeeping requirements for heritage services, including classifications and archives; and 16. Other duties as directed by the Chief Executive Officer.
Essential: 1. A minimum 4-6 years experience in the heritage sector (public or private); 2. Demonstrated applied knowledge of the Burra Charter and related disciplines; 3. Demonstrated high level ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and as part of a team; 4. Demonstrated high level organisational and management skills; 5. Demonstrated high level communication skills (verbal and written), negotiation and interpersonal skills used for policy development, reporting, presentations, liaison and consultation with key stakeholders and the National Trust team; 6. Demonstrated understanding of heritage legislation, strategies, policies and planning processes; 7. Demonstrated high level information technology skills including the use of MS Office Suite of software including Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook; 8. Demonstrated experience working with volunteers, including volunteer committees; 9. "C" Class Driver's Licence; and 10. National Police Clearance. Desirable: 1. Tertiary qualifications in Heritage Management, Planning, History and/or other related disciplines; 2. Records management, library or archival experience and training; 3. Experience in database management; 4. Ability to work out of regular hours, including evenings and weekends; and 5. Ability to travel intrastate at short notice.
Following an initial 12 month fixed-term contract with a six month probationary period, subject to satisfactory performance and financial viability, a longer term extension may be offered. Permanency in the future will be subject to Clause 11 of the Premier's circular 2018/02.
