The Role

The PTA is committed to managing its operations in an environmentally sustainable manner and minimising adverse impacts on the environment and communities, whilst delivering an essential service to the community of Western Australia.

The Environmental Services Branch in the Infrastructure Planning and Land Services Division provides environmental and Aboriginal heritage advice to PTA’s business units enabling infrastructure planning and construction to proceed and supporting operations to comply with our environmental and Aboriginal heritage obligations and commitments.

We are looking for two environmental professionals; one to join the Operational Support section and one to join the Project Delivery Support section of our environment team. In these roles you will be contributing to the planning and operations of safe passenger transport services on rail, coach, buses and ferries, as well as the delivery of large infrastructure projects to expand our service network under METRONET.

The Environment Advisor in our Project Delivery Support team provides professional environmental support to the Environmental Manager and Principal Environment Advisor in the discharge of the PTA’s environmental responsibilities during the planning and execution of major projects. The successful applicant will assist to investigate environmental incidents, identify environmental risks, develop controls for their mitigation and progress improvement initiatives.

The Environmental Officer in our Operational Support team provides professional and technical support on environmental matters consistent with statutory regulation, the PTA’s environmental obligations and its Environmental Management System. The successful applicant will coordinate the approval of noise management plans by local government authorities for maintenance and construction work conducted outside of normal working hours and assist in liaising with local community groups and responding to complaints of an environmental nature, such as noise or dust.

About you

We are seeking to appoint enthusiastic and dynamic individuals with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, stakeholder engagement experience and the ability to manage the demands of a fast-paced project environment to deliver business outcomes. To be successful in these positions you will have relevant environmental expertise, including:

  • Possession of a degree qualification in environmental science, environmental management or related discipline.
  • Sound understanding of environmental legislation and its application.
  • Relevant experience in engaging and managing environmental consultants.
  • Relevant, practical experience in environmental management.
  • Relevant knowledge and experience with a broad range of environmental issues such as contaminated sites, revegetation, infrastructure sustainability, Aboriginal heritage, asbestos and noise and vibration.

This is a pool recruitment process where suitable applicants will be placed in a pool for 12 months from which permanent or fixed term appointments with the possibility of further extension(s) and/or permanency will be made.  Currently there are two (2) full time fixed term positions available for 24 months with the possibility of further extension(s) and/or permanency.
