The Opportunity:
This role supports opportunities for the preservation of significant Aboriginal places, fostering positive outcomes for Aboriginal heritage and promoting regulatory compliance through administration of statutory functions. The role engages with and supports a team involved in assisting Aboriginal communities and landowners in the protection of Aboriginal sites throughout Western Australia. Functions of the team include delivering a heritage site auditing program, the repatriation of ancestral remains to country, managing a grants program, and working with Aboriginal communities in the management of protected areas across the State.
We currently have one fixed term full-time appointment up to a period of 12 months with the possibility of extension and or permanency . This process may be used to fill future similar permanent or fixed-term positions that may arise across the WA public sector in the next 12 months from the initial date of appointment.

To be successful in this role, you need to demonstrate:
- Experience in using ArcMap or similar GIS software, including the ability to interrogate data, undertake geospatial analysis and create maps.
- Ability to apply research, analytical, critical thinking and problem solving skills to project work.
- Awareness of the Aboriginal Heritage Act 1972.
- The ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with a broad range of stakeholders using well developed written and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to promote the vision for the Division and the Department in line with stakeholder and broader community values.
Competencies outlined in the Public-Sector Capability Profile for Level 3 are applicable to this role i.e. shapes and manages strategy; achieves results; builds productive relationships; exemplifies personal integrity and self-awareness; communicates and influences effectively.

To be eligible for a permanent appointment to the Western Australian public sector it is essential that you are an Australian citizen or have permanent residency status in Australia.
