The Department of the Premier and Cabinet (DPC) is seeking motivated professionals to help build WA Government’s Cyber Security Uplift team.
The WA Government is investing a further $25.5m into Office of Digital Government’s Cyber Security Unit to increase the Government’s ability to prevent, detected, and respond to cyber threats. The unit is expanding into one of the largest dedicated cyber security teams in the WA Government to add new capabilities and expand existing programs. WA Government agencies run some of the largest networks in the state, with a diverse range of technologies managing sensitive information and services for citizens and industry. The Cyber Security Unit’s role is to assist agencies with their cyber security programs and to develop whole-of-government cyber security solutions.
We are establishing a Whole-of-Government Cyber Security Uplift Team capability to help and advice to State Government organisations as they increase their cyber security maturity.
There are currently two (2) permanent positions available. One (1) permanent position available for immediate filling, and one (1) permanent position from July 2022.
Suitable applicants will be placed into a Whole-of-Government Pool which permanent and/or fixed term appointments may be made throughout DPC and across other Public Sector agencies. The pool will operate for a period of 12 months from when the breach claims period has been finalised. By applying for this pool, you agree for your application to be shared amongst multiple Public Sector agencies.
This position is based in Perth, Western Australia, however short-term remote work options are available for inter-state applicants who unable to travel immediately.
About the Role:
- Help design and implement service offerings to help WA Government agencies in implementing the WA Government Cyber Security Policy, including work like:
- Internal and external vulnerability assessments
- Review and gap analysis of security controls
- Risk assessment activities
- Implementing security controls, including technical solutions.
- Develop whole-of-government security solutions, advice, and guidance to tackle security issues at scale.
- Design and help implement security baselines/configuration for common platforms.
- Perform assessments of proposed systems to be built or bought, including threat modelling and third-party risk assessments.
- Research and analyse emerging cyber/technology issues and provide advice on the impact to the WA Government.
- Provide mentorship and support to junior staff.
Two specialities are available for Principal Cyber Security Specialists – GRC and Infrastructure Security.

Who we are looking for:
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in enterprise cyber/information security or consulting.
- A strong interest in cyber security and technology.
- A pragmatic and approach to cyber security and risk management
- Demonstrated experience working both as part of a collaborative team, or independently with limited supervision.
- Experience with industry standard security frameworks (for example: ASD Essential 8, ASD ISM, NIST Cyber Security Framework, the ISO/IEC 27000-series.) or experience with infrastructure and security administration, with a focus on Microsoft enterprise networks including Azure/Office 365.
- A relevant tertiary qualification or industry certification is desired but not essential.
