This is a fixed term, full time vacancy available for 12 months, with the possibility of extension.
This position is personal staff to the Chief Judge of Western Australia. The appointment of District Court Judges’ personal staff are made pursuant to s 27A of the District Court of Western Australia Act 1969 and governed by the Government Officers Salaries Allowances and Conditions Award 1989 and, where applicable, the provisions of the Public Sector CSA Agreement 2019.
About the role
The District Court is seeking an experienced legal practitioner or a highly qualified law graduate for the role of Legal Research Officer to her Honour the Chief Judge. The role includes undertaking legal research for the preparation of correspondence, speeches, papers and reports. You will also assist in the maintenance of an effective information management system and provide assistance and advice to the Chief Judge on information sources and research tools.
This is a full-time position working 75 hours per fortnight as part of the Chief Judge’s personal team. Appointment will be by way of contract of employment for a 12-month period with an opportunity for renewal commencing on completion of the recruitment process.

About you
The successful candidate will possess high level legal research and analytical skills and written communication skills of the highest calibre. The successful candidate will be required to distil legal principles from cases into appropriate commentary and have sound database management skills and an ability to work in a team with excellent interpersonal skills.
