The position
The Minerals Research Institute of Western Australia (MRIWA) is growing its team and is looking for someone to lead its work on decarbonising mineral processing and low carbon products and markets, complementing the existing Green Steel and Net Zero Emission Mining Challenges.
Reporting to the CEO, the Research Portfolio Manager will play an integral role:
- identifying and developing new opportunities for minerals research with researchers and industry; and
- managing our emerging portfolio of investment in research related to green steel and low carbon transition in iron ore and alumina.

Job Requirements and Capabilities
You will have a relevant Bachelor degree or higher, be an experienced project management professional and have a background in operations or research relevant to the minerals industry with knowledge of extractive metallurgy, the iron ore to steel value chain or the bauxite to aluminium value chain highly desirable.
Highly developed science communication skills are required. You will be experienced in negotiation and representation, with proven ability to establish and maintain productive relationships and networks and lead collaborations with a broad range of stakeholders to achieve outcomes.
Background
The Minerals Research Institute of Western Australia is a statutory body established by the Western Australian Government under the Minerals Research Institute of Western Australia Act 2013 to stimulate minerals research to support investment in, and operation of, a globally competitive minerals industry in Western Australia.
MRIWA’s primary function is to foster and promote research activity. The Institute is able to collaborate with industry and research institutions in WA, Australia and worldwide.

Interviews for this position are expected to take place in the week commencing 17 January 2022.

This position is also subject to a three (3) month probationary period.
