A unique and exciting opportunity is currently available at Hedland Health Campus and Karratha Health Campus. We are seeking suitably experienced and motivated people to the position of Consultant – Surgeon – General Surgeon.

Position Profile: This position provides comprehensive clinical service to General Surgery patients of WA Country Health Service – Pilbara. This is an opportunity for a developing or experienced rural general surgeon who wants an extensive scope of rural general surgery, upper and lower endoscopies and emergency trauma surgery. 

This position promotes patient quality and safety and Provides leadership, training, supervision and education for Medical Interns, Registrars and Health Service Medical Practitioners as required in collaboration with the Operations Manager and Regional Medical Director.

Suitable applicants will be placed in a pool from which appointments may be made when similar vacancies occur. Appointments may be made from this pool until 28/02/2023.

The Pilbara Health Region of the WA Country Health Service covers the Pilbara Region of Western Australia. It is Western Australia's second most northern region, defined by the Indian Ocean to the west and the Northern Territory border to the east. The Kimberley region lies to its north across the Great Sandy Desert and the Pilbara's southern reaches border the Midwest and Goldfields regions. The region covers a total area of 507,896 square km (including offshore islands). Most of the inhabitants are located in the western third, whereas the eastern third is largely desert with few inhabitants. The Pilbara came to national and international prominence during the 1960s when the go-ahead was given to extract iron ore deposits in the region. It hosts the Warlu Ways through the Karijini and Millstream Chichester National Parks, one of the most spectacular natural phenomena of colour rock contrasts and vegetation beauty in Australia.
