Millars Well Primary School (PS) is seeking to appoint a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join their team in the role of Deputy Principal.

We are seeking an experienced educational leader with a commitment to school improvement to support optimal outcomes for our students. The appointed Deputy Principal will support the school to articulate and realise a vision that aligns with the Department of Education’s strategic directions and the aspirations of the Millars Well school community, as outlined in the 2021-2023 Business Plan.
We are seeking an effective instructional leader. The successful applicant will ideally have the capacity to support teachers and education assistants to understand and employ agreed whole school approaches, including low variation curricula and explicit instruction. This will include ensuring effective support for the full range of students within each classroom, including those with disabilities and learning difficulties. The ability to coach teachers to develop a positive classroom climate, effective instructional practice and highly effective behaviour management skills is highly desirable. This role will include regular, supportive classroom observations and modelling for teachers, as well as the fostering of effective professional learning communities.
The successful applicant will ideally have excellent interpersonal skills and will be able to use these skills to coach and mentor teachers to assist them to hone their skills and manage their professional obligations to achieve a sustainable work-life balance. The successful applicant should use their responsive and proactive communication skills to build effective relationships with the school community, especially families of students for whom school presents particular challenges. You will ideally have the skill and empathy in supporting students with special needs. Experience in providing culturally appropriate support for Aboriginal students and their families will be highly desirable.
We are seeking a leader with well-developed knowledge of effective, research-supported practices for fostering literacy and numeracy development. The successful applicant should articulate an understanding of contemporary theory relating to scientific principles of learning and high impact pedagogy. The ability to explicate, model, and coach teachers to hone their skills in using explicit instruction is highly desirable. Capacity to develop staff understanding of integrated inquiry learning, especially from a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) perspective, will be highly valued. A thorough knowledge of the principles of play-based learning and the National Quality standard will be expected.
To be successful in this role you will be familiar with operational requirements of human and financial resource management and compliance, and will contribute to the administration team’s obligations, including managing staff rosters, leave, payroll and financial processing tasks, budget and cost centre management, performance management and reporting. Experience with these management tasks will be well-regarded.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings.
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes.
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

Eligibility
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- Hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
Training
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
