What will your typical day look like?
This is an exciting opportunity for an authentic and motivated leader to join the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD). We are looking for a Business Development Manager to drive and manage transformative business development opportunities within the Agribusiness, Food and Trade Directorate. Your goal will be to effectively manage business development projects to increase investment in Western Australia’s agri-foods sector, working along side commercial market participants and industry associations.
The agri-food, fish and fibre industries are the second largest traded industries in WA, worth an estimated $11.7 billion. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to industry growth through managing and facilitating complex resource and investment opportunities and innovative projects.
In this key role, you will be the conduit between WA’s agri-businesses and targeted domestic and international investors, financial institutions, and investment analysts. Your effective relationship building, and negotiation skills will be essential in collaborating and guiding potential businesses and investors through required pathways to secure investment and expand production and export activity from WA, all while managing investor expectations. The ability to understand and respond to changing domestic and global investment trends (e.g. Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance (ESG)) for WA’s advantage will provide much scope for achievement.

The successful applicant will be somebody that has previous experience in complex project management, and demonstrated experience working on investment development in a commercial or investment attraction capacity.
You will have strong communication skills to establish, maintain and effectively manage strategic partnerships, collaborative working relationships and effective communication networks with key stakeholders and agencies. Additionally, you will have a strategic mindset to develop strategies and support agribusinesses capacity building to develop and pitch concepts.

To be eligible for a permanent appointment to the Western Australian public sector you must be an Australian citizen or have permanent residency status in Australia. To be eligible for a fixed term or a casual appointment you must have documentary you must have documentary evidence of your entitlement to live and work in Australia for the period as part of your application.

Special Requirements for this position:
- Intrastate, interstate, and international travel may be required.
- An acceptable National Police Certificate (police clearance) is required. If not currently held, must be acquired prior to commencement at applicant’s expense.
- The contract of employment specifies terms and conditions relating to this position.
- Business Development Managers may be required to support any functional area of the AF&T Directorate (i.e. Agribusiness Development, Trade, Food) or undertake placement in key partner agencies (e.g. JTSI, ITWA, Austrade, etc.) when required and as directed by the Executive Director.
- Occasional travel to and from metropolitan and regional offices may be required.
This process may be used to fill other similar vacancies throughout the department. In addition to this, should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position, the panel may select another suitable applicant from this selection process. Both of these options remain valid for a period of twelve (12) months from approval of the initial recruitment decision.
