A $22 million project has commenced to build our new Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Royal Perth Hospital (RPH). We are seeking to appoint experienced Registered Nurses to support the provision of exceptional patient centred care. The new ICU will provide an improved experience for our community’s critically unwell patients and for their carers. The new ICU will have state of the art modern facilities and technology including larger and more single patient rooms, latest medical equipment, staff areas and dedicated areas for families and visitors. Additionally, an exciting and new Clinical Information System (CIS) is currently being implemented as an electronic health record for the ICU which will streamline operational efficiency and patient management.

Position Profile: We are seeking to establish a pool of experienced individuals for the role of Registered Nurse, working in the Royal Perth Hospital Intensive Care Unit. As part of a multidisciplinary team the Registered Nurse provides comprehensive evidence based nursing care to patients, as well as facilitates and promotes patient safety and quality of care. The Registered Nurse practices within their scope of practice considerate of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) Nursing Practice Decision Making Framework. Ideal candidates will have significant experience in Intensive Care/High Dependency nursing or in an Acute Care area.
There are also opportunities for experienced critical care nurses to join the Health in a Virtual Environment (HIVE) team. Located in the East Metropolitan Health Service Command Centre at Royal Perth Hospital, the HIVE is staffed 24-hours a day by clinical experts. The service offers additional layers of monitoring for vulnerable patients and is enabled by an artificial intelligence platform that detects the earliest signs of clinical deterioration. When an alert is generated, HIVE clinicians use a two-way audio-visual system to collaborate with staff on the ward offering “a second set of eyes” to address any clinical concerns. The advent of this safety net for our patients and staff puts EMHS at the forefront of healthcare innovation both nationally and globally.
