This is a twelve (12) month fixed term, part-time (0.2FTE) position commencing Term 1, 2021
Djidi Djidi Aboriginal School are seeking a highly motivated, innovative and enthusiastic Noongar Language teacher who has a strong Aboriginal Language background. Due to the highly specialised nature of this role, it will be essential that applicants have the requisite language skills and a strong cultural understanding.
To be successful in this role, you will have the ability to immerse students in both an understanding of the language and the development of Aboriginal culture as well as providing a consistent, integrated and inclusive learning program which engages and motivates students. Also, you will ideally possess excellent interpersonal skills and be highly proficient in classroom management
The successful applicant should be willing and able to work in a diverse educational setting, meeting the educational needs of students within a dynamic environment. As the successful applicant, you will also be responsible for planning, teaching, assessing and reporting of students based upon the Australian Curriculum.
Djidi Djidi Aboriginal School was established in 1996 in order to better serve the needs of Noongar children in the South West City of Bunbury. Djidi Djidi Aboriginal School is a modern, well-resourced and aesthetically appealing school located amongst natural bushland and adjacent wetlands in Glen Iris, Bunbury. The main aims of Djidi Djidi Aboriginal School are:
- to improve educational outcomes for Aboriginal students;
- to strengthen and affirm Aboriginal culture;
- to increase student attendance, retention and engagement at school; and
- to involve Aboriginal community members in school decision making and in the student's educational programs.
At Djidi Djidi, we cater for individual learning styles, set high standards and have a strong belief that all children can learn. The school believes in, and fosters, tolerance, diversity and working collaboratively. The promotion of Aboriginal language and beliefs in assisting Aboriginal children to accept and value themselves and their culture is central to the learning program.
In the first instance, only applicants with teaching qualifications will be considered. Where there are no suitable applicants with teaching qualifications, applicants without teaching qualifications may be considered.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):
- Professional knowledge;
- Professional practice; and
- Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
- Be fully or provisionally registered with the Teacher Registration Board (TRB), or be eligible for full or provisional registration prior to commencement of the position. (Applicants who require a Limited Registration to teach from the TRB are not eligible). TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
