The Marine Science Program aims to ensure the department's marine biodiversity conservation and management programs are based on best practice science. The program promotes and undertakes marine research and monitoring to improve the scientific basis for the conservation and management of Western Australia's state-wide system of marine protected areas, threatened marine fauna and marine biodiversity generally. Marine research and monitoring are based around the strategies identified in protected area management plans and threatened species recovery/management plans.
Similar appointments may be made from this process in locations throughout Western Australia within a 12-month period to positions that may be permanent or contract, including contract appointments with the possibility of subsequent permanency.

Job Description
- Strategically plans, develops and implements conservation initiatives including those to mitigate and/or manage major pressures (e.g. artificial light, feral animals, marine debris and climate change) on flatback turtles in Western Australia.
- Facilitates the exchange of knowledge and information for use in decision making; assesses and measures effectiveness of different conservations strategies; implements actions to achieve outcomes and maintains strategic partnerships in DBCA and with external stakeholders.
Selection Criteria
Applicants should address the following four (4) criteria. These should be addressed in no more than three (3) pages in total.

Demonstrated substantial experience planning and implementing collaborative multi-stakeholder projects that have delivered conservation outcomes (Essential), in a marine environment (Desirable).

Demonstrated understanding of knowledge exchange principles and experience in using knowledge exchange in conservation programs.

Demonstrated interpersonal skills including the ability to lead and manage staff and contractors to ensure a productive and outcome focused work environment.

Demonstrated experience in developing and/or using innovative and creative communication and education products and tools to assist conservation, including having communicated scientific information to diverse stakeholders.
Note: At the interview stage, applications will be required to conduct a seven (7) minute presentation to the selection panel on previous relevant experience and how this has led to conservation outcomes.
In accordance with relevant legislation and departmental policy, the successful applicant will be required to possess or obtain a current and satisfactory National Police Check prior to commencement.
