Kelmscott Primary School (PS) is seeking a dedicated and dynamic individual to join their leadership team in the role of Deputy Principal.
In collaboration with the Principal and other members of the leadership team, the Deputy Principal provides educational leadership in the school, uses effective change management strategies to deliver improved outcomes, leads and motivates staff, contributes to the development of the school plan through participative decision-making, and uses their professional knowledge to promote teaching and learning within the school.
The Deputy Principal will have a developing knowledge and application of contemporary instructional leadership across different contexts. Priorities for the Deputy Principal will be to develop and support the administration team and teaching staff to steer and manage the Student Services processes.
The Deputy Principal will provide high level leadership across the school as a member of a high functioning administration team. The successful applicant will have strength in Student Services, Pastoral Care, and evidence based instructional practices that foster high level outcomes for all students, particularly students with special education needs. Emerging experience in the instructional leadership of Positive Behaviour Support is desirable.
You will need to have a high level of interpersonal skills with an ability to work collaboratively with parents and all stakeholders. You will require a knowledge of Department of Education policies including: SAER, Attendance, Medical, and Child Protection. The successful applicant will demonstrate highly proficient skills in building teacher capacity in a collaborative team environment. To be successful in this role, you will inspire the best from staff with the ability to establish genuine high expectations, and build relationships, utilising those relationships to achieve improved educational outcomes for all students. You will promote positive relationships between students, staff, parents and the wider community and provide leadership to further developing a high performance, high care school culture.
The successful applicant will ideally have experience in data analysis and leading whole school approaches to improve academic and social outcomes for all students. In addition to this, experience with Teacher Coaching and Mentoring and Professional Learning Communities in the area of Performance and Development is desirable.
Kelmscott PS is located in the eastern suburbs of Perth, approximately 24 kilometres from the city. The school is close to Albany Highway but maintains a quiet semi-rural feel due to its proximity to the Darling Scarp and the Canning River.
The Kelmscott staff is committed to excellence and regularly participates in professional learning to enhance their skills. Students are actively encouraged to achieve their best and there are a high percentage of Kelmscott students accepted into specialist high school programs. Teaching and learning practices reflect the principles of the WA Curriculum Outline.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be appointed to other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
