Legal Aid’s Practical Legal Training (PLT) program is aimed at law graduates who are required to complete practical work experience as part of an external practical legal training course.
Participants in the PLT program will be placed in a section of Legal Aid WA’s Perth office where they will work under the supervision of the Legal Practice Development Division and an appointed solicitor to complete workplace tasks.
Regional placements may be available, however Legal Aid WA will not cover any travel or accommodation costs associated with these placements.
Placements will be for between 20 and 25 days, depending on the requirements of the participant’s PLT course. Longer placements may be available upon request.
Hours are flexible and placements may be undertaken on a full-time or part-time basis, but must be completed within a maximum period of six months. Applicants should express a preference for intake in the first or second half of 2020.
To be eligible for the program, applicants must be law graduates or completing their final year of a law degree in 2019. Applicants expecting to graduate mid-year in 2020 are eligible for intake to the program in the second half of the year.
Applicants who have already been admitted to legal practice will not be accepted.
Acceptance to Legal Aid’s PLT program is conditional upon enrolment in an approved practical legal training course. A conflict of interest check will also apply.
