The Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DMIRS) and the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation (JTSI) have come together to create an award-winning interagency graduate program.

About the program

Our 18-month graduate program aims to build the skills, experience and networks required for a successful career in the public sector. A customised rotational plan exposes graduates to a range of opportunities both internal and external to the department. The graduates support team, includes a sponsor, a mentor, a coordinator and fellow graduate buddies who will guide participants through the experience alongside a comprehensive learning and development program. The program concludes with the opportunity for a permanent position. Initial employment is on a fixed term contract with provision for permanent appointment following successful completion of the first twelve months of the program.

About the position

The Dangerous Goods and Petroleum Safety Branch of DMIRS is seeking a recent graduate with a bachelor degree in the field of Engineering or Science, relevant to the operations of highly complex safety critical industry sectors or an approved equivalent bachelor degree (completed in the current or preceding year).

On completion of the graduate program, as a Safety & Risk Analyst within Critical Risks section, you will be involved in the administration and application of the Petroleum Safety and Dangerous Goods legislation to Petroleum and Major Hazard Facility operators across WA. This will include undertaking (as part of a team):

• Inspections and audits
• Review of safety submissions for approval
• Provision of specialist advice
• Liaison with operators regards safety compliance matters
• Promoting safety and health outcomes, including education and information
• Internal projects aimed at improving Critical Risks, DMIRS and the wider industry to meet their respective obligations and duties

This position is located in East Perth however, you may be required to work at other sites.

• National Police Clearance
• Pre-employment medical, base line hearing test and psychological assessment
• Pre-employment Conflict of Interest declaration
• A ‘C’ Class Drivers Licence is also a requirement for this position
