Appointment Pool

The Curriculum, Assessment and Strategic Policy Division is seeking to establish a pool of highly motivated and committed Principal Consultant – Examination Development for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2019 school year and up to the end of Term 2, 2020. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2019 school year, up to the end of Term 2, 2020.

The suitable applicant will provide advice on the ATAR and Externally Set Tasks (EST) policies and practices along with assisting in the strategic planning and formulation of processes for the development of examinations and ESTs.  As the suitable applicant you will manage appointments and briefings of examiners, independent reviewers and external checkers for designated ATAR courses and briefings of writers for designated EST courses.

As a Principal Consultant – Examination Development you will plan, manage and monitor the development and evaluation of designated ATAR course examinations, as required by the Authority, and check the analyses of these examinations to ensure reliability and validity. You will also plan, manage and monitor the development and evaluation of designated ESTs, as required by the Authority. You will be required to provide advice to the School Curriculum and Standards Division Executive, committees and working parties on the development of ATAR course examinations and ESTs and assist with the post-examination statistical process carried out by the Information Systems Branch.

As the suitable applicant you will liaise with schools and other external stakeholders to provide information on Authority policies and procedures pertaining to the ATAR course examinations and ESTs. You will also be required to develop reports, maintain effective records and course information databases in accordance with the Department’s record keeping policy and in relation to examination development.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following: 

  1. Substantial knowledge of curriculum and assessment in the context of the WACE, ATAR course examinations and the ESTs.
  2. Highly developed organisational skills with a proven ability to deliver outcomes on schedule in a demanding environment and under tight timeframes.
  3. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, including experience in undertaking high-level consultation, collaborations and negotiations.
  4. Highly developed written communication skills with the ability to edit and ensure documents are error-free.
  5. Ability to provide leadership and work collaboratively to manage a range of complex projects.

  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
