This is a Recruitment Pool for Fixed Term Full-Time, Fixed Term Part-Time (hours negotiable – availability and minimum working hours may vary by site) RMO appointments for the 2020 clinical year commencing 13 January 2020.

This centralised Resident Medical Officer (RMO) recruitment process is for all applicants wishing to be considered for RMO positions at the participating WA Health Services and hospital sites, listed below.

Suitable applicants will be placed in a pool from which appointments may be made when vacancies occur. Appointments may be made from this pool until 9 October 2019. Contracts of up to 24 months may be offered, at the discretion of the employing health services.


Participating Health Services and hospital sites include the following, as well as their general, rural and regional hospital placement sites:

South Metropolitan Health Service - Fiona Stanley Hospital

East Metropolitan Health Service - Royal Perth Hospital

North Metropolitan Health Service - Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital

Child and Adolescent Health Service - Perth Children’s Hospital

North Metropolitan Health Service - King Edward Memorial Hospital

WA Country Health Service

Joondalup Health Campus*

*Joondalup Health Campus is part of Ramsay Health Care Australia. Employment terms and conditions are contained within the Ramsay Health Care Employment Agreement.


Whilst this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancies, it may also be used to fill other ‘similar’ vacancies throughout the above health services. In addition to this, should a successful applicant decline a vacancy, then other applicants appointed to the pool may also be selected from this process.

The WA Health System – Medical Practitioners – AMA Industrial Agreement 2016 (Agreement) provides for the engagement of interns and their subsequent transition to RMO Year 1 and 2, for a fixed term period of three years. All WA interns employed under this Agreement who remain employed under this WA Health Agreement, will be entitled to placement as an RMO with WA Health in 2020.

Those who remain employed by Fiona Stanley Hospital, Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, Royal Perth Hospital or WA Country Health Service, where they commenced their internship, must either elect to remain employed by their current employing Health Service Provider (HSP), or apply to transfer to another HSP, as part of this annual centralised RMO recruitment process. Remaining with the same HSP or transferring to a new HSP is subject to successful application to a competitive recruitment process in which best efforts will be made to accommodate applicants’ preferences. This includes the operational ability of HSPs to accommodate existing and new employees, which may vary on an annual basis.

Eligibility to Apply:

Applicants must have worked for a minimum of 6 months as a registered medical practitioner in a hospital setting in Australia, New Zealand, the United States, United Kingdom, Ireland, or Canada.

Preference for appointment will be given to practitioners who have gained this clinical and procedural experience within the last two years.

Basic Physician Training (BPT)

Adult Internal Medicine:
Applications for Basic Physician Training (Adult Internal Medicine) (BPT) will be advertised on and submitted via MedJobsWA. Applications for training will be separate to applications for employment i.e. applications for BPT are no longer included in the Resident Medical Officer Application processes.

Candidates must have a Resident or Service Medical Registrar position in 2020 at Fiona Stanley, Royal Perth or Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital to be eligible to apply for a training place within their employer’s BPT Network.

Paediatrics and Child Health:

Residents and Registrars seeking to register with RACP as a first year basic paediatric trainee (BPT) in the year 2020 are required to secure employment for 12 months with Perth Children’s Hospital (PCH), or secure paediatric Registrar employment for 12 months with Fiona Stanley Hospital (FSH). Please note there will be separate recruitment processes for those wishing to apply for paediatric registrar positions at PCH or FSH.

Information on the training program including list of sites accredited for basic paediatric training are available online at www.racp.edu.au.

Prospective trainees, who have accepted eligible employment, will be informed of the BPT selection process by PCH Postgraduate Medical Education (PCH PGME).
