Upper Swan Primary School (USPS) is seeking to appoint a Teacher - Middle - Years 3-4. The successful applicant will be fully committed to achieving high professional standards.
We are looking for a dynamic educator who uses evidence based strategies to deliver the Western Australian Curriculum. As well as being highly effective in teaching Literacy and Numeracy; we are looking for someone to broaden learning opportunities through the integrated and innovative use of digital technology. The successful applicant should have the confidence to innovate and to not be afraid of the learning that comes with prospect of failure. The successful applicant will be team oriented and have the personal qualities that enable you to maintain a positive outlook.
As school needs change from year to year, it may be necessary to move between year levels and learning phases. The capacity and willingness to do so is highly desirable.
The majority of Upper Swan teachers have completed Professional Learning (PL) in Kagan Cooperative Learning, with the goal being to increase engagement at all stages of the learning process. The successful applicant, if they have not already done so, will complete training in Kagan PL, scheduled in holiday periods. School funds pay course costs and an allocation is made for the purchase of resources.
Over the last two years Upper Swan PS has had a major teacher development focus on the implementation of iStar connected practice. This teaching model is grounded on visible learning and gradual release principles with elements of explicit instruction and links to First Steps. iStar was developed by the W.A. Primary Principals’ Association. The successful applicant will have access to iStar professional learning.
Familiarity with the programs, strategies and resources we use is an advantage, but not essential as the successful applicant will be supported to get up to speed. Some examples of what we do include explicit teaching of strategies through guided reading, running records and miscue analysis, First Steps in English, explicit teaching using Diana Rigg’s Promoting Literacy Development (PLD) approach and Primary Connections in Science.
The ability to differentiate the curriculum for Students at Educational Risk (SAER), target and extension students will be highly regarded. Several classes have special needs students with an Education Assistant (EA) allocation to support the learning adjustments. The majority of our special needs students are on the autism spectrum.
The successful applicant will need a high level of professional standards and be committed to self-improvement. You will have the energy and enthusiasm to contribute to advancement of student achievement beyond your own classroom. The successful applicant should be a team player with a commitment to whole school approaches and the ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with students, parents and staff.
