The Department of Finance in Western Australia is seeking a highly skilled and experienced economist who can carry out economic research and analysis to support reform initiatives of the Western Australian Government. While employed within the Public Utilities Office and engaged primarily in matters pertaining to reforms in the energy and utilities sectors, you will also contribute to broader microeconomic reform projects conducted by the Department of Finance’s Economic Reform Business Unit.
This is a specialist position established to bring a high level of technical economics expertise to bear in policy projects and should appeal to economists with a passion for applied research and a desire to make a contribution to public policy and microeconomic reform.
Applications are sought from candidates that can demonstrate substantial experience and success in delivery of applied economics research and an ability to contribute deep technical expertise to projects in microeconomic and regulatory reform.
It is expected that the successful applicant for this position will have a post-graduate research qualification in economics and a strong track record of applied economics research, preferably addressing matters of public policy and microeconomic reform. Experience and knowledge of the energy and utilities sector will be an advantage. A very high standard of written and verbal communication is essential, including in communicating economic analysis and arguments to a lay audience.
This is a senior position in government for which a high level of expertise and capability is required. An attractive remuneration package will be negotiated and relocation assistance provided to attract the right candidate.
Currently there is one (1) full-time, fixed-term contract up to three (3) years available for immediate filling.
