We are seeking to establish a pool of Intensive English Centre Teachers for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2027 school year. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

The Role

Thornlie PS Intensive English Centre (IEC) is seeking teachers who can ideally demonstrate their capacity to plan and implement a differentiated, targeted curriculum to a diverse range of English as an Additional Language/Dialect (EAL/D) students who are in the early stage of learning English. Suitable applicants should have a thorough understanding of the West Australian Curriculum and the EAL/D Progress Map to inform their planning, teaching, assessment and reporting, as it is important to the role.

Ideally suitable applicants should be competent in teaching Stage 1 EAL/D students from varying levels of prior schooling, print literacy and language learning needs.

They should be dedicated and highly motivated educators with the ability to develop quality teaching and integrated learning programs across all learning areas to develop the students’ language and literacy needs. Suitable applicants should have a passion for working with students from culturally diverse backgrounds. Suitable applicants would also have strong knowledge of effective teaching strategies to support language acquisition through subject content.

Suitable applicants should be reflective, open to feedback and willing to act on guidance to maximise student achievement. Suitable applicants will ideally be required to collaborate effectively within their phase of learning team and the IEC team.
