We are seeking an experienced labour relations professional to join our People Services team in a 12-month fixed term opportunity available for immediate filling with the possibility of extension and/or permanency.

The State Services Division delivers essential corporate and enabling functions throughout the Department, ensuring effective and responsible operations in accordance with public sector and legislative requirements, and the achievement of Government priorities. The People Services directorate within State Services delivers high‑quality, consistent and efficient services to the Department and client agencies. Core functions include HR and payroll services, support for Parliamentary Electorate Officers, executive transport, ministerial office support, organisational development, and integrity.

The People Services directorate delivers strategic and operational workforce services that enable the Department and client agencies to attract, support and retain a high-performing workforce.

About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced workplace and industrial relations professional to lead the delivery of strategic labour relations advice across the Department.

As the Principal Labour Relations Consultant, you will be a trusted adviser to senior leaders on complex and sensitive workplace matters, industrial negotiations and significant organisational risks. You will provide specialist expertise in the resolution of complex employee and industrial relations matters, contribute to enterprise bargaining and industrial relations initiatives, and help shape contemporary workplace relations practices across the Department.

Working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, you will influence senior decision-making, lead or contribute to strategic workplace relations projects and organisational reform initiatives, and represent the Department in complex dispute resolution and industrial relations processes.

A legal qualification is not required; however, candidates with qualifications in law and experience navigating complex employment or industrial relations matters will be viewed favourably.

Fixed Term appointment:

  • To be eligible for fixed term appointment you must have a current visa that allows you to work for the required term and hours of the contract.
