We are looking for a Legal Officer to provide quality and pragmatic legal advice and legal documents in support of our Land Management Division and to assist and support our more experienced Senior and Principal Legal Officers.
As the Legal Officer you are responsive, and customer focused in delivering legal services to the Department and in particular the Land Use Management Division.
There is one permanent, full-time position available. This process may be used to fill future similar permanent or fixed-term positions that may arise within the Department and across the WA public sector in the next 12 months from the initial date of appointment.
To be successful for this position, you need to demonstrate the following essential requirements:
- Bachelor of Law degree and admitted to practice Law in the Supreme Court of Western Australia (or otherwise approved by the Legal Practice Board of WA).
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in one or more of the following areas: property law, native title law and practice, state heritage law, administrative law and commercial law.
- Ability to undertake research and prepare accurate and pragmatic legal advice in short timeframes.
- Demonstrate the behaviours within the leadership context as outlined below.
Core leadership behaviours outlined in Leadership Expectations are applicable to this role and should be demonstrated in the context of Personal Leadership. The Personal Leadership context is about the work of individuals not yet in traditional leadership positions who make a direct and immediate difference to the agency. The expected behaviours may be assessed during the recruitment and selection process.
Desirable: Knowledge of Crown land law and practice would be desirable but not essential.

Special Requirements for this position:
This position also requires possession of, or willingness to obtain membership to the Law Society of Western Australia or the Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) Australia.
The Department will conduct a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check for applicants successful to this recruitment process.
