The Role

Denmark Senior High School (SHS) is an Independent Public School seeking to appoint a highly competent and enthusiastic Head of Learning Area – English, Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS) and Languages to join their senior leadership team.

The successful applicant will ideally display innovation in curriculum leadership, assuming immediate responsibility for working in concert with the variety of specialist teachers in English, HASS and Languages to further consolidate a collaborative and cohesive team. To support the business needs of the school the successful applicant should have a strong curriculum background in English with the capacity to teach senior schooling English courses at the ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank) level.

The successful applicant will ideally be committed to leading high levels of student engagement, academic and personal achievement in a supportive environment where success is celebrated. Aligned with the strategic direction of the school, the successful applicant will lead strategic planning for positive outcomes and with high professional knowledge in instructional practice. Guided by evidence and informed by Teaching for Impact, they will model high-impact strategies and continuously evaluate their effectiveness and that of their team to ensure all students achieve strong academic and personal growth across the Learning Area. Possessing the skills to lead curriculum differentiation to cater for a range of abilities, including special needs, is highly regarded. They should aim to sustain a culture of data analysis that results in informed decision-making and educational best practice.

Key to this role is that the successful applicant ideally displays the capacity to build productive working relationships with students, staff and the community. Possessing excellent interpersonal and organisational skills, they should be curious about learning and about learners; be invested in the school as a member of the leadership team; and be reflective of themselves and their practice. The successful applicant should be innovative and plan strategically to lead a learning culture that strengthens staff capacity to enact the school’s Business Plan.
