The South Coast Region extends 1,200 km from Denmark to the South Australian border and includes 14 national parks and 150 nature reserves covering 2.5 million hectares plus 7 million hectares of unallocated Crown land (UCL). National parks include Torndirrup, Porongurup, Stirling Range, Fitzgerald River, West Cape Howe, Gull Rock, Waychinicup, Stokes, Cape Le Grand, and Cape Arid.
The South Coast Region’s key service deliverables include nature conservation, parks and visitor services and fire management.
We currently have an opportunity for a Fire Operations Officer to join our team.
Under the direction (Level 3) or general direction (Level 4) of the District Fire Coordinator, this position:
- Assists in planning, organising, training and implementing (Level 3) or responsible for planning, organising training and implementing (Level 4) programs and operations relating to fire management, (including prescribed burning and bushfire preparedness) within the Albany district.
- Participates in the planning, coordination and implementation of the district strategic access works program and the Mitigation Activity Funds (MAF) works program.
- Responsible for preparing records on achievements in fire management program as per Fire Management Services Branch reporting requirements.

Selection Criteria
Applicants should address the following four (4) criteria. These should be addressed in no more than four (4) pages in total.
- Knowledge of and some experience (Level 3) or demonstrated operational experience (Level 4) in the management of fire related activities for biodiversity conservation and community asset protection purposes including bushfire suppression, incident management principles and practices and the planning and implementation of prescribed burning programs.
- Knowledge and skills (Level 3) or experience (Level 4) in leading and managing teams, including implementing works programs, scheduling work, setting and reviewing goals and controlling and reviewing progress, with a preference for experience in managing volunteers and contractors.
- Evidence of good (Level 3) or well-developed (Level 4) interpersonal and oral communication skills and demonstrated abilities (Level 3) or experience (Level 4) in effective liaison with external organisations, including local authorities, private companies, other government agencies, and community interest groups.
- Knowledge of (Level 3) or experience in (Level 4) contract management, preparing budgets, and monitoring expenditure of allocated work projects. Evidence of ability to show a conscientious approach to all issues and consistency in meeting project deadlines.
