The Opportunity
The Bennett Brook Disability Justice Centre  offers secure accommodation for individuals with intellectual or cognitive disabilities who have been charged with an offence and are subject to a custody order.

As a Disability Justice Officer you will work as part of a team to maintain the safety and security of the Disability Justice Centre and facilitate the development of training and support for people with intellectual or cognitive disability who are interfacing with the Justice System.

You will promote and model the Disability Justice Services’ (the Service) guiding philosophy, principles and values by promoting human rights, person-centred and evidence-based approach.  

This role effects change using Pro-social and Life Skills training and Positive behaviour support and is actively involved in resident’s Individual Development Planning, connecting with a range of key internal and external stakeholders, and supporting individuals to make positive changes and address past disadvantage, including alleged Criminal behaviour.  

In addition, the position prioritises community safety by actively observing, assessing, and monitoring practices to maintain a safe and healthy environment. It ensures the delivery of evidence-based services for residents, with a strong focus on reducing offending behaviour and fostering positive, pro-social development through individualised, developmental approaches that support residents to safely transition and integrate into the community.
