Position Profile and Role

We are currently seeking a Director of Nursing Mental Health to join our team.

As a member of the senior mental health leadership team, the Director of Nursing Mental Health is responsible and accountable for contributing to the achievement of the strategic and operational objectives of the South Metropolitan Health Service (SMHS) Mental Health Directorate. The role provides professional leadership across nursing practice, workforce development, research, innovation, and clinical governance, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based nursing care.

Reporting to the Executive Director, SMHS Mental Health, the position works in close partnership with the SMHS Area Director of Nursing and Midwifery Services and collaborates with the SMHS Mental Health leadership team to lead, influence, and support the ongoing development, implementation and evaluation of nursing practice, professional standards, and models of care across SMHS Mental Health. This includes fostering excellence in clinical practice, advancing innovation and continuous improvement, and strengthening the nursing profession's contribution to contemporary mental health service delivery.

Across Fiona Stanley Fremantle Hospital Mental Health (FSFH Mental Health) and Peel and Rockingham Kwinana Mental Health (PaRK Mental Health), specialist services are provided across the South Metropolitan region, supporting consumers with accessible, collaborative and high-quality mental health care. SMHS Mental Health will soon open a new state-of-the-art facility at Fremantle Hospital designed to offer expanded and modern mental health services for our community. The three-storey space will provide an additional 40 mental health beds and a 24-hour Mental Health Crisis Centre, ensuring compassionate and innovative care for those who need it most.
