About the program

The program offers a 12-month, multi-agency rotation, giving graduates practical experience across government agencies in specialised ICT streams, including Cyber Security, Data Science, ICT Operations and Geospatial Information Systems.

You will work in skilled digital teams that mentor and support you through each rotation. Opportunities vary each year based on agency business needs. Since 2024, 58 graduates have started their public sector careers through the program — and you could be next.

The Office of Digital Government leads Western Australia’s digital transformation and delivers the award-winning whole-of-government Digital Public Sector Graduate Program.

The program partners with some of WA’s largest government agencies to attract high-quality ICT and STEM graduates and build digital capability across the public sector.

The program supports your transition into a longer-term public sector career.

We are looking for graduates who are passionate about making a positive impact through public service and are eager to contribute to the ongoing transformation of government. Eligibility

To apply, you must:

✔ Have completed a degree between 1 June 2024 – 31 December 2026.

✔ Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident or visa holder for the duration of the program.

✔ Be available to start full time work in early February 2027.

To be eligible for appointment to positions in the West Australian Public Sector you must have suitable working rights for the duration of your employment, either through citizenship, permanent residency or visa conditions.

We recognise that everyone is unique. Our multi-step recruitment process gives you different ways to show your values, skills and interests in an inclusive and personalised environment.

Step 1: You will submit your application and answer questions about your personal values, skills and interests, helping us understand what matters to you.

Step 2: If shortlisted, you will complete an online gamification challenge that shows how you think, solve problems and approach creative tasks.

Step 3: Based on your application and gamification challenge you may be invited to a personalised Talent Hub Experience, where you can showcase your strengths, meet other graduates and connect with participating agency supervisors.
The Talent Hub Experience will be held on 13 or 15 October 2026 and applicants must be available to participate to be considered for this role.

As part of your application, you must submit:

• A current CV outlining your academic and work experience, interests and hobbies.
• A completed question template OR responses to the following application questions in no more than three (3) pages:
  • Why are you interested in the Digital Public Sector Graduate Program, and how do your personal values align with working in the WA public sector?
  • If you could design an innovative digital project to benefit the community, what would it be and why?
  • The graduate program includes rotations across different agencies, requiring resilience and adaptability. Describe a time you used these skills to overcome a challenge in a workplace or learning environment.
  • What does 'digital transformation' mean to you?
  • Digital tools are rapidly changing how people work, learn and communicate. If you used any digital tools, including AI, to support your application, please tell us what you used, how it helped you, and any limitations or risks you considered when using these tools.

AND

• A copy of your most recent academic transcript, if you are still studying towards a bachelor’s degree.

OR

• A copy of your bachelor’s degree qualification and full academic transcript completed between 1 June 2024 and 31 December 2026 inclusive.

What happens next?

If you meet the role requirements, you will be invited to complete an online gamification challenge. If shortlisted, you will then be invited to participate in a Talent Hub Experience.
