POSITION OBJECTIVE
This position supports the Western Australia Police Force’s strategic objectives of community safety, crime prevention, and technology-enabled policing by delivering timely, high-quality digital forensic services. This includes conducting crime scene and critical incident examinations, applying advanced extraction techniques, and ensuring compliance with Forensic Division Standard Operating Procedures. Operates within the CRIME model (Contact, Respond, Investigate, Manage, Evaluate) and the ILA model (Identify, Locate, Associate) to strengthen investigative capability. Contributes to offender detection and apprehension, the reduction of crime, and the enhancement of public confidence through comprehensive digital forensic analysis.
SPECIALIST PRE-REQUISITES
It is a requirement that the position holder is successful in obtaining and maintaining a NEGATIVE VETTING LEVEL 1 security clearance for the duration of their appointment in the position. Only Australian Citizens are eligible to hold and maintain the NEGATIVE VETTING LEVEL 1 security clearance. Any applicants who are currently not an Australian Citizen must be aware that this is an essential requirement to fulfil this position (please refer to the attached position description). Whilst there is nothing to preclude applicants from applying for the position if they have not yet been granted Australian Citizenship, applicants who are successful should be aware that they cannot be appointed unless they are in the process of applying for Australian Citizenship and are eligible to become an Australian Citizen prior to appointment.
It is also a requirement of this position that applicants undertake a psychological assessment to determine their suitability, and as an incumbent, agree to undergo periodical psychological assessments, as required.
The recommended applicant must also consent to undergo identifying procedures as a Volunteer and for the identifying particulars (DNA, fingerprints and photograph) to be held on a Police Elimination Database, Part 4, Division 2 of the Criminal Investigation (Identifying People Act, 2002). The forensic purpose for conducting these procedures is investigating offences generally.

Applicants are asked to address the following nominated work-related requirements in no more than two (2) pages:
- Knowledge of advanced digital evidence analysis techniques including the interpretation of computer, mobile device, data artefacts, and the use of specialised digital forensic tools and investigation equipment – Understanding of and aptitude for Digital Forensics that focuses on identifying, acquiring, processing, analysing, and reporting on data store electronically.
- Analytical, research and problem-solving skills – Analysing objectives, planning solutions, carrying plans to completion. Translating generally expressed needs into a technical solution. Explaining complex technical information and concepts in a manner which is accurate and can be understood by a non-technical audience.
- Possession of, or progression towards, a relevant tertiary qualification or recognised Industry Certification – Digital Forensic, Computer Science, Information Technology, Cyber Security.
Applicants are also required to submit a comprehensive Curriculum Vitae (CV). Your CV should provide enough detail (dot points are sufficient) to allow the selection panel to assess your skills, experience and qualifications relevant to the Key Accountabilities of the attached Position Description Form.
The CV must also include the names and contact details of two (2) referees who can comment on the applicant’s ability to satisfy all of the Essential Work-Related Requirements. Applicants should nominate at least one immediate (most contemporary) supervisor/manager unless exceptional circumstances exist.

OTHER CONDITIONS
Whilst this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, it may also be used to fill other similar vacancies throughout the metropolitan area. In addition to this, should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position, then the panel may select another suitable applicant from this selection process. Both of these options remain valid for a period of twelve (12) months from the initial date of the appointment.
Integrity and criminal checks will be conducted if the recommended applicant for a position is not a current WA Police Force employee. Any relocation costs associated with appointment to these positions may be the responsibility of the successful applicants.
