Broome Primary School (PS) is committed to fostering a culturally responsive, inclusive and welcoming school community where positive and respectful relationships are valued and nurtured. Established in 1901, Broome PS is the oldest established public school in the Kimberley and has a long and proud history of serving the local community.
The school works in partnership with students, families and the wider community to create a safe and supportive environment where every student feels a strong sense of belonging, identity and connection. Programs and initiatives promote student self-esteem, wellbeing, resilience and the development of strong personal and social values.
The school’s four core expectations of Care, Respect, Pride and Success form the cornerstone of Broome PS’s values and underpin teaching, learning and relationships across the school. These expectations are embedded throughout the school, with a strong focus on recognising and valuing the diverse cultural identities, experiences and strengths of students and families.
Broome is situated on the shores of Roebuck Bay in the Kimberley region of Western Australia, approximately 2,200 kilometres from Perth. The town has a rich multicultural history shaped by the pearling industry and strong Asian, European and Aboriginal cultural influences. Broome is the traditional home of the Yawuru and Djugun peoples and is rich in Aboriginal culture.
Broome PS recognises and respects the enduring connection of Aboriginal people to Country, culture, language and community. The school values the knowledge and perspectives of the local Aboriginal community and seeks to embed culturally responsive practices across school life, while celebrating the diverse cultures that contribute to the unique character of Broome.
